Abstract

In this study, the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 was investigated for the degradation of methylene blue under UV irradiation. The TiO2 was synthesized via hydrothermal method at vary reaction time and temperature. TiO2, manufactured at 160oC in 8 hours, was achieved the highest efficiencies of methylene blue within 180 min was 80%. This synthesized material have been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), energy-dispersing X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). Pseudo-first order, pseudo-second-order models were used to analyze the kinetic data obtained at several different temperatures. The degradation process of MB which used syntheszed TiO2 is better described by the pseudo-first-order model.
