Abstract

Thread trimming after sewing is an essential but challenging step due to the high cutting force, dependence on the thread type and the use of inefficient crude cutting tools. This research establishes a theoretical basis and analyzes the influence of blade geometry on the cutting force of industrial sewing thread. Results show that the actual cutting force ranges from 6 to 12N, depending on the fiber structure and material. Based on these findings, an optimal blade profile is proposed with a sharpness angle of 25 to 30°, a small edge radius of 5 to 8 μm, and a blade thickness of 0,8 to 1,2mm to reduce friction and enhance cutting efficiency. CAE software simulation confirms that the proposed profile reduces cutting force fluctuation by 20 to 30% compared to conventional blades, ensuring adequate durability and reasonable stress distribution. These results lay the foundation for designing integrated thread cutting tools, meeting the automation requirements in the finishing process of garment manufacturing
