Abstract

This paper investigates Renaissance costume (14th–17th centuries) as a quintessential embodiment of Western classical aesthetics and humanist ideology. By analyzing the defining features of Renaissance clothing design, the study elucidates the role of costume not only as a marker of social status but also as an artistic medium that reflects the humanist philosophy and spirit of the era. Based on this foundation, the paper further explores how the formal elements of Renaissance attire have been inherited and adapted in modern fashion practices-particularly in retro-inspired trends, haute couture, and theatrical costume design. In doing so, the research contributes to clarifying the interdisciplinary connections between art history, visual culture, and fashion design, while reaffirming the enduring aesthetic legacy of the Renaissance within the context of contemporary creativity.
