Abstract

The porous composite electrode based on activated cacbon from coconut shell charcoal were fabricated as an electrode for brackish water treatment by Capacitive Deionization technology (CDI). The effect of composite thickness and applied voltage on the characteristic properties as well as salt electroadsorption capacity of the electrode was studied. The results indicate that the composite thickness is an important parameter affecting the salt adsorption capacity of the electrode. The resistance of the electrode is large for the thick composite film, leading to a reduction in the salt adsorption capacity. The study on the effect of applied voltage on the adsorption capacitance of the material showed that the maximum value of salt adsorption (SAC) reached at 1.2 V (10.93 mg/g and 11.97 mg/g for batch mode and single pas mode, respectively).
