Abstract

The internal combustion engine utilizing the Gasoline Partially Premixed Combustion (GPPC) method, which involves the partially premixed combustion of a pre-mixed mixture with gasoline fuel, has the potential to achieve high engine efficiency while keeping harmful NOx and particulate matter (PM) emissions low. In this study, a two-stage injection strategy combined with exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) control was experimentally analyzed at medium load conditions. The fuel employed was commercial gasoline with a high octane rating of RON95. The results indicate that the combustion process is controlled by the EGR rate and the timing of the second injection (SOI2), which includes the start of combustion, the main combustion phase, and the combustion duration. Understanding the influences of the SOI2 timing and EGR rate provides a basis for optimizing the engine operation with this novel combustion model.
